The bathroom and kitchen are the two rooms where a renovation almost always starts with a complete strip-out — and where the heaviest waste per square metre comes from. A cast-iron bath weighs up to 120 kg, the tiles with mortar another 400–600 kg, and all of it has to get through narrow doorways and down a stairwell. We strip it out, cut up whatever will not leave whole, carry it down and take it away in the same visit.
If the bath will not go through the door, we cut it on the spot and carry it out in sections. Standard, not extra work.
We take off the tiles and, where needed, the mortar bed, depending on what goes on top.
Hobs, ovens and other electrical appliances go through the proper channel, not the general rubble.
The supply must be off before the sanitary ware comes out. If not, we agree the order of work.

An old cast-iron bath weighs 80–120 kg. It often will not go through a flat door and stairwell whole, so we cut it on the spot and carry it out in sections. A normal part of the job, not an extra problem.
A standard bathroom has 15–25 m² of tiles. With the mortar, 400–600 kg — around twenty full bags from one small room.
Toilet, basin, shower cubicle, old pipework and water heater. The supply must be off before the strip-out — if it is not, we agree the order of work.
The bathroom door is usually the narrowest in the flat, and only one person can work in there at a time. That affects the duration, and we allow for it in the quote.
Cupboards, worktop, sink. We break fitted units down on site so they get through the door at all — a whole kitchen island will not go down a block stairwell.
The old hob, oven, extractor and dishwasher. Electrical appliances have their own disposal route, which we handle — they do not end up in the general rubble.
The tiles between the units and the worktop, often with old mortar and adhesive behind. A small area, but every bit as dusty as a bathroom.
