Concrete, brick and mortar are the heaviest waste we handle. A cubic metre of concrete weighs up to 2400 kg, so a truck is full at a cubic metre and a half — visually a small heap, but a full load. This is also where a customer's estimate most often differs from reality: twenty square metres of floor screed is two tonnes and roughly seventy bags.
For heavy waste, weight decides, not volume. We set the number of trips by the material and say so in the quote.
A full bag of screed or tiles weighs 25–30 kg. Any more and the bag splits. We carry them out.
Seventy bags from the fifth floor is our job, not yours. Floor and lift are accounted for in the price.
Inert construction waste goes to a licensed facility, where it is usually crushed for reuse.

Book a collectionA 3.5 tonne truck carries about a cubic metre and a half of concrete — visually a small heap in the body. For brick, around two cubic metres. So five cubic metres of concrete physically will not go in one load, even though by volume it might look as though it would.
Heavy waste is carried in bags, and a full bag of mortar or tiles weighs 25–30 kg. Fill it further and it splits, and nobody can lift it. That is why a bathroom refit comes to twenty bags, not five.
Two tonnes of screed from a fifth floor with no lift is around seventy bags, carried down one at a time. Several hours for several people — which is exactly why floor and lift are among the main price factors.
Concrete and brick are inert construction waste. We take them to a licensed facility, where they are usually crushed and reused as aggregate in road building or for sub-bases.
