In Riga the conditions change not just between districts but literally between streets. On a narrow Vecrīga lane a truck often cannot get near the door; in a nine-storey block in Purvciems the waste goes down the stairwell because the lift is not meant for it; in the detached streets of Bieriņi or Berģi we drive straight into the yard. So the price is set far less by distance than by the specific address.
Narrow streets, pedestrian zones and parking restrictions mean the truck often stands further from the door, so every bag travels further. In the old buildings the stairwells are narrow with sharp turns — a cast-iron bath will not come out whole, so we cut it down on the spot. Listed buildings need extra care so the stairwell finishes are not damaged.
Purvciems, Ķengarags, Imanta, Pļavnieki, Zolitūde, Jugla — the lifts are narrow and often not meant for waste. In the five-storey buildings there is no lift at all. After a bathroom refit that means twenty bags or more, carried down one at a time. Access to the entrance is fine, but the yards are full of cars.
Mežaparks, Bieriņi, Berģi, Šampēteris, Torņakalns and the other detached areas — the truck comes into the yard and loads straight from the pile, the quickest and cheapest scenario. In the older timber buildings of Āgenskalns and Torņakalns the waste is mixed: old plaster, timber framing and old windows in one pile.
New complexes and office buildings usually have a goods lift, but using it needs booking with the building manager and sometimes passes. We sort that out before the visit so the crew is not left waiting.

The most common order. A bathroom and kitchen strip-out in a nine-storey block gives 5–8 m³ and around 25 bags, all carried down because the lift may not be used.
In Āgenskalns, Torņakalns and Čiekurkalns the waste is mixed: plaster, timber framing, window frames with the glass in. Larger volumes, lighter than concrete.
In Vecrīga and the centre the constraints are parking and working hours. We work evenings, when the streets are clearer and the office empty.
The cellars are cramped, low-ceilinged and badly lit — longer than the same volume in a flat.
Finding somewhere to put a skip is a problem in itself: in the centre and old quarters there is no room in the yard, while on the street it needs a council parking permit. In the yards of apartment blocks it takes up parking spaces, and the neighbours' rubbish soon appears in it — and you pay for that.
We do not hire out skips at all, even when asked. Our work begins indoors and ends when the truck drives away. When we plan a run in Riga we allow for two local factors: the city is Latvia's main road, rail and public transport hub, with the airport in its south-western functional area, and the fact that the Daugava banks include some flood-prone ground. Both affect how close we can park and how long loading takes. If a skip really would suit you better, we will say so honestly.
Yes, the whole administrative territory. On the outskirts, yard access is better than in the centre, so loading goes faster. Within Riga, distance has almost no bearing on the price.

Within Riga's boundaries, distance has almost no bearing on the price. Driving from one edge of the city to the other costs the same — it is set by volume, the floor, whether the lift can be used and how close the truck can get, not by kilometres.
